Advocacy Brief

Abortion, or termination of pregnancy as it is referred to in the law, is legal in Malaysia under specific circumstances.

Almost half of pregnancies in Malaysia are unintended, disproportionately affecting younger, unmarried, less-educated, and lower-income women and girls.

This brief focuses on the urgent need to address women’s and young people’s rights to quality and affordable contraception and safe abortion services. Emphasizing the significant impact of unintended pregnancies and highlighting access to reproductive health services and information.

Abortion Zine

This illustrated booklet discusses normalising abortions for women. Unplanned and unwanted pregnancy can cause adverse effects for women and takes away women’s bodily autonomy.

Abortion is allowed in Malaysia up to the quickening stage (usually around 22 weeks), after which the fetus is able to survive outside the womb.

It is important for all of us to advocate for access to safe and affordable abortion services in order to protect women’s health and to uphold greater sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Comprehensive Sexuality Education Zine

In this illustrated booklet, we will discuss and learn about body parts and how to look after ourselves so that we stay healthy and safe!

We must also create safe spaces for discussing inappropriate behaviors by adults (even family and friends) and empower young people to speak up and confide in someone when they feel violated, even if it calls for uncomfortable conversations.
